Marlys Closser Greenhalgh:
I retired from working as a Visual Arts Instructor quite motivated to devote time to producing fine art. I have realized this dream with expressionist woodcut printmaking and modern impressionist oil paintings that reflect my passion for life and nature. I create landscapes that celebrate my perennial gardens or rural vistas often including wildlife, domestic animals or people. I also create still life compositions. I strive to capture my vision of seasonal color and light.
I find inspiration here where we live or during my travels and thrive in the outdoors. I often paint ‘en plein air’, hiking, biking and kayaking with a camera, to return with my easel and paints.
Sauk County Wisconsin is a treasure trove of state and county parks, nature preserves, lakes, rivers and splendid vistas. As a parent and grandmother, I hope to motivate and convey the concept that we need to do all we can to preserve our planet’s ecology for future generations.
My story began in Western Pennsylvania on a farm adjacent to my grandparents’ farm. One of seven children, we had acres of woods, pastures, hay fields and streams to explore. I grew up with Black Angus cattle, chickens, sheep, cornfields and vegetable gardens. Sarah, my Mom always fostered creativity, and was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Her indomitable spirit motivates me daily. I strive to enjoy life to the fullest, creating an inviting home for my family and friends. A great day includes making art, gardening, exercising in nature, and making a fine dinner! It’s a wonderful life, and I hope my work fosters joy and action!
